Since so much stuff is happening, I will already be giving you an update now.
I have fully moved into my room in Japan, and apart from having no duvet or pillow, everything is super nice.
I have met some of the others who live here, and we are from many nationalities so far I have met people from: Germany, USA, Philippines, Spain, Poland, Russia, Italy and Botswana. So that shall be pretty interesting.
Mostly I have been shopping, pretty fast since I needed a duvet and other stuff, and looking around the neighborhood.
The first day:
After the 13’ish hours in the flight, I arrived at 08:00 and then spent 2 hours in public transport until I got to my sharehouse.
That and exploring and trying to stay awake until evening, meant that when it finally reached 21:00 I collapsed in bed, too tired to even leave again for dinner (that I had forgotten when I was out earlier).
The second day:
I explored some more, and decided to get the paperwork sorted at the city hall that I need to do before my school starts:
I needed to be registered for a permanent address, in the japanese healthcare system and in their pension system..?
So that trip to the city hall took around 3 hours, since none of the forms were in english, and it took some time to find an employee that spoke a bit of english to help me.
To be fair they are generally extremely polite and helpful, it’s just the english that throws them off.
After the entire thing, I now have a stack of paperwork, with everything from how the pension system works and what to do in case of a disaster to a tourist map of my area and some info about Tokyo.
I did some more basic shopping and exploring, and returned home and met some of the others who live here. They are generally very nice, and we will properly be going out for a drink on friday.
Overall, I’m excited to be here, and I can feel I get more comfortable with the stations I use in my daily life, so everything is starting to be easier.
Tomorrow I will properly go for a bit more sightseeing than shopping, so by then I should have some pretty pictures to show you.
Anyway, that’s it for now but I will write again relatively soon.
